'Green Fund I' was formed to invest equity and equity-like capital in greenfield and operational small-scale renewable energy assets located in Sub-Saharan Africa, with an initial focus on East Africa.

Multiple power-producing technologies have been considered, but a primary focus has been placed on run-of-the-river hydropower assets.

Gigawatt Global Rwanda

A 8.5 megawatt (MW), 28 260-panel solar power plant located in Rwamagana, Eastern Province of Rwanda.

  • Acquisition date: August 2024

  • Ownership stake: 51%

  • Power production: Approx. 13,000 MWh

  • Community: The land underpinning the project is leased from the Agahozo-Shalom Youth
    Village, and as a result provides the school for vulnerable youth with significant and reliable financial resources.

A holding company that owns eight hydropower projects in Western and Central Kenya.

  • Acquisition date: August 2023

  • Ownership stake: 41%

  • Power production: Approx. 14,500 MWh

  • Community: Each project provides critical energy to
    the surrounding communities, which supports development of the local economies, expansion of local businesses, and the creation of local jobs.

Rwaza Hydropower Plant

A 2.6 MW hydropower plant in Musanze, Northern Province of Rwanda.

  • Acquisition date: December 2023

  • Ownership stake: 40%

  • Power production: Approx. 14,500 MWh

  • Community: Rwaza's power is fed to the national grid, allowing the grid to expand to new users and increase the quality of power to rural communities. The power plant also provides high skilled jobs to the community.

Spark Energy Service Co.

A portfolio of solar energy projects located in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania and South Africa.

  • Acquisition date: January 2024

  • Ownership stake: 20% of total shares

  • Capacity: Up to 40 MW across approx. 80 projects.

  • Community: Access to a reliable energy source is
    critical for economic success and expansion. Spark's solar installations directly provide steady electricity to nearly 100 businesses across Africa.

Nyirahindwe Hydropower Project

A 1.333 MW hydropower plant under construction in Nyirahindwe, Western Province of Rwanda.

  • Ownership stake: 10%

  • Power production: 5.9 GWh annually

  • Developed by Hydroneo, comprises Nyirahindwe I and Nyirahindwe II.

  • The project will supply power to the national grid upon completion.
