THE OPPORTUNITY
The Fastest-Growing Region on Earth is Running Out of Power
Sub-Saharan Africa's economies and population are expanding faster than anywhere else, while roughly 600 million people still live without electricity. Closing that gap is a multi-decade investment need, it is being funded far too slowly, and technology is now stacking new demand on top of it.
+4.6%
GDP growth, set to outpace China in 2026–27 and rank second only to India.
47%
of the population has no access to electricity — against 0.5% in India.
41%
of the population is under 15 — the most youthful region on earth. Around 500 million will reach working age within 18 years.
+102 GW
of new capacity needed by 2035 simply to keep pace with people and incomes.
+3.6%
urbanisation a year, the fastest rate in the world and roughly double India's.
$77B
of private and DFI capital still uncommitted against 2035 renewable targets.
And a Second Wave of Demand is Arriving Early.
Data Centres
AI and cloud build-out is landing in the region, and reliable clean power is deciding where. Kenyan data-centre load is forecast to grow about 30% a year through 2028, Nigeria expects roughly 400 MW by 2030, and operators in South Africa are siting new capacity directly alongside dedicated solar.
Electric Mobility
Africa's transport transition is running on two and three wheels, where the economics already work. Rwanda is targeting 30% electric motorcycle penetration by 2030, and electric models reached 7.1% of new motorcycle registrations in Kenya in 2024. Every one of them charges off the grid.
And the Resource is Barely Touched.
BUILT TO DATE, AGAINST TOTAL RENEWABLE POTENTIAL

~10,500 GW
solar, hydro, wind & other potential
~50 GW built across the whole region
Less than 1% of sub-Saharan Africa's renewable potential is generating power today. Solar alone stands at roughly 10 GW built against 10,000 GW of potential. Fund II exists to convert a sliver of that gap into contracted, cash-generating assets.
A PROVEN THESIS & TRACK RECORD WITH OUR GREEN FUND I
We have Already Built This, at a Smaller Scale.
Launched in 2021, Green Fund I deployed $16M into 55 run-of-river hydro and solar assets across eleven countries. It proved the model, sharpened our origination and risk management, and generated the pipeline that Fund II will draw on.
